Venture into an anime-styled fantasy world in NosTale

NosTale is a free-to-play action RPG with anime-influenced graphics. You begin as a simple Adventurer, but as you progress you'll unlock new classes that allow you to customise your character. This game also features an extensive pet system; you can use these creatures as allies in combat and use them to populate your home base.

Unique spins on a classic formula

If you've played other free-to-play mid-tier MMOs, a lot about NosTale will seem familiar, but the game does a few interesting things with the standard game formula. The instanced PvE dungeons, known as TimeSpaces, feature challenging mechanics and time limits, while the class cards used to develop subclasses provide some complexity to a simple core class system. The expansive pet system will appeal to players who enjoy collecting, and it's nice to see the creatures roaming around your Miniland home. The player-driven economy means you can often buy the gear you need from other players, although prices can be a challenge for free players. The cute anime style makes this game's graphics work, even if they're technically somewhat dated.

An interesting take on a genre

If you don't mind grinding your way up to the interesting upper levels, NosTale offers some fun game elements for MMO fans. It's an older game, and has the usual free-to-play challenges, but there is still a lot there to enjoy.

PROS

  • Engaging art style and graphics
  • Fun class specialisation options

CONS

  • Long grind with risk of 'pay to win' sections
